'Tis the Shopping Season In honor of the holidays, we thought we would share our top five reasonably-priced, production-related gifts (wink-wink). We've filtered out the obvious items, like cameras, tripods, and lights, and compiled what we think is an essential list of supplemental tools. |
5. MEGAPHONE - No director wants to strain his voice during a long day of filming.
A megaphone is the best way to stay in touch with everyone on set, even from the comfort of a chair. And if things get rowdy, you can always press the siren button to shut everyone up. |

4. ELECTRICAL GLOVES - Safety first! When working with lights, it's extremely easy to burn a hand, and, although less likely, it is entirely possible to electrocute yourself. Gloves won't always prevent issues from happening, but they can dilute them quite a bit. They're also useful in freezing weather conditions. |

3. C-STAND - Short for "Century Stand," these three-legged tools are useful for all aspects of the grip department. Whether for rigging small lights, positioning reflectors, or even balancing a troublesome setpiece, the possibilities are endless with this universal piece of equipment. |

2. EXTENSION CORDS -
Let's face it: that wall plug in the corner is always going to be just out of reach of your cable, and an extension cord is the easiest solution. You may not need them for every shoot, but you'll be happy when you do. |

1. GAFFERS TAPE - Often considered the most essential tool in the equipment truck, any filmmaker can recall at least a few occasions where gaff tape saved the day. Costing 3-4 times higher than traditional duct tape, this adhesive is specially-designed to tear easily and remove cleanly, without leaving behind any residue. Although it is most commonly used for securing cables on the floor, gaffers tape generally manages to work its way into every department of the film set. |

It may take an internet search to find some of the items, but these are gifts that will keep on giving every time the camera starts rolling. Happy shopping to all! |
