Getting the Cast
February 5 , 2010

As usual, Rab Studios has been hard at work this week, organizing two casting calls for the upcoming short film, Workaholics Anonymous.

"This is always an interesting part of filmmaking," said Producer Allison Freitas, "because every casting call is completely different from the last, and you don't usually know what to expect."

For both casting sessions, Howland Place Fitness Center opened up one of their large group studios, where actors performed monologues and cold reads for Director Robert Bartolome and Casting Director Ted Hill.

"I always like actors to perform something they've barely had a chance to look at," said Bartolome. "It's important that they can adapt quickly and efficiently to changes, because that happens all the time on set. We also like to throw some curveballs...and have them perform the read in a few different ways, because that shows us how they handle direction."

On the other end of the spectrum, Hill focuses on physical acting and presence. "Eye contact is critical for an audition," he explained, "because I like to see strong facial expression. And aside from that, range is important, but not just in the dialogue. I want to see emotional range through their movements, too ."

With auditions wrapped up, the team will be finalizing a cast list over the next few days. Continue to check allworkaholics.com for production updates and news!
