Soco a Go-Go, Pt. II
July 2, 2010

Rab Studios took the stage on Thursday night at New Bedford's Artworks! Gallery, as part of the "To Tell a Story Through the Lens" series.

Guests enjoyed a casual lobby pre-show, colored by the gallery's eclectic photography exhibit, as well as a spread of refreshments and "an expensive and delicious cheese plate," according to Robert Bartolome. Producer Allison Freitas and Bartolome then entertained their diverse audience with an humorously explosive interactive presentation.

Rab crew member Derek Conway appeared on screen to outline the evening, stressing to viewers the importance of getting involved in the event's open discussion, and promptly reminding everyone to put on their 3D glasses. Conway and his control room assistant, Doug, made frequent appearances throughout the night, even butting into the presentation to make a comedic "technical difficulties" announcement.

Screened projects included a clip from Angles, a promo for "Neighborhood Chant," "Wrap MC's," and a debut trailer for "Workaholics Anonymous," which earned quite a few laughs. REGA himself even made an on-screen appearance to introduce the "Wrap MC's" video, live from a vacation home in Moneta, Virginia.

Preston Alexander followed the Rab presentation by screening his haunting short film about a man who is destroyed by foreclosure. Viewers were moved by his introduction, as he explained his life-changing experiences that inspired him to make the film. "This is the one medium...where you get to experience what parts of you are too afraid to do in real life... You can live through these experiences, and then purge them."

The series continues on Tuesday, July 2nd, with the screening of Will Berthaud, Jr.'s Underground, only at: Artworks! 384 Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford, MA 02740.
