The Rab Roster
Part III: The Candid Eye

July 9, 2010

The past two weeks have spotlighted filmmakers KC Amos and Alan Farkas, the first directors to join the Rab Roster. This week, the crew is ready to unveil the lineup's third director, a visionary who brings a strikingly human style to all of his work.

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Cetre Pegues has been deeply immersed in the film world for his entire life. Driven by ambition, Cetre dove headstrong into his first film, a feature entitled Blood Billz, which marked the debut of actor Al Shearer (Glory Road, MTV's Punk’d). In the earlier part of his career, Pegues' knack for finding great talent followed him on to the set of an indie music video, starring Academy-Award winning actress Mo'Nique.

Cetre then moved to Los Angeles, where he met and worked for director Darren Grant (Diary of a Mad Black Woman) and learned the business of Hollywood. “I did a lot of coffee runs back in those days," admitted Pegues, "but I learned tons!”

His official bio puts it bluntly: "Feeling challenged by an over-worked producer who told him he'd never be a director, Cetre picked up the camera and started making movies again. And he’d never work for that producer again."

Whether he is directing a music video, commercial, or feature film, all of his projects evoke strong themes of truth and reality. “The camera was just something I always had in my hand,” explained Cetre. “My dad taught me to take the photo without [anyone] knowing.” This candid style lead Cetre to edit many documentaries for the Discovery Channel, as well as produce a handful of his own.

Working on these documentaries clearly helped focus his real-world vision, which is always a prominent part of his work. Recent projects include music videos for Sunz of Soul and the widely-popular New Alliance.

The Rab crew would like to give a warm welcome to Cetre, the third director to join the Rab Roster. Stay tuned for details on the long-awaited Director's page, coming soon.
