MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR |
|
|
Well, we're back! We had an insanely busy October, including a productive trip to LA, and we had a great opportunity to sit down and talk with two of our directors (face-to-face time is much too overlooked in the "new media" world). Along with a week's worth of other meetings, we also took a relaxing drive up the coast to Monterey (as seen in the picture). That was the first "vacation" I've had in over two years, so it felt great to finally unwind and recuperate. There is also some exciting news below, about Rab's upcoming company split. This decision is something we've been throwing back and forth for the whole year, but ultimately we've realized that it is an important next step. Oh, and a very special thank you for your votes in the Kodak Home Office Prosper Contest. You all got me into the Finals, so I'll keep you updated as I find out more! Be sure to bundle up. It's getting cold out there... --Robert Bartolome |

THE SPLIT |

With Rab's dive into the new media world, along with its new roster of directors, Producer Allison Freitas and staff have been working to keep the company's advertising work separate from film projects and web series. Their final solution is very simple: draw a line. "Mixing film with advertising is generally frowned upon in the industry," said Freitas, "frankly, for no reason. But we also felt that our company goals were getting crossed, and it was getting confusing as to what exactly we do." Currently penned as Rab's "Music Video, Commercial, and New Media" division, Rab Media will stay clear of its parent Rab Studios, which is strictly devoted to feature film, short, and episodic work. "Each website will have the same basic layout," said Creative Director Robert Bartolome, "but one will have the inverted Blue colors, to contrast our trademark yellow." According to Freitas, the home page of rabstudios.com will look similar to the picture seen right, giving users a clearly-defined choice. However, typing in rabmedia.com will take users directly to the media website, for the convenience of potential clients. Freitas explained, "The goals of each site will be clearer and more direct. Rab Media is selling services, whereas Rab Studios is showcasing and selling projects." Look for updates to take place in the coming weeks. |

![]() AFM's Saturday morning panel drew a large |
Incentives Input at AFM AFM's finance showcase drew a large crowd yesterday with its focus on the various state tax incentives around the country. Panelists, who included Nu Image chief financial officer Trevor Short, kept the subject matter relaxed and approachable, something he said the more popular state film commissions also strive to achieve. Louisiana proved a topic of interest, with Short commenting, "It's got all the things I look for in a tax incentive program: It's simple." Variety.com reports, "Louisiana offers one of the more aggressive programs, with 30% transferable credit for in-state expenditures. As a result, the Pelican State has lured both studio and independent projects, including pics by Nu Image, which has set up shop in Louisiana and lensed more than 20 films there, including summer hit The Expendables." |
